An international certification body for IT security
professionals is offering scholarships to promote research into
information security best practice.
The International Information Systems Security Certification
Consortium - (ISC)2 - plans to award four, one-year scholarships to
fund postgraduate research.
Worth up to £7,000 each, the scholarships are intended to support
(ISC)2's work in developing best practice standards.
"It is our mission to provide development opportunities and support
for information security professionals throughout their careers,
and that begins with students pursuing an information security
career," said (ISC)2 chief executive James Duffy.
(ISC)2, a non-profit organisation, trains and accredits IT
professionals as certified infor- mation systems security
professionals (CISSP) and system security certified practioners
(SSCP).
Membership of the organisations has grown rapidly over the past two
years as corporate governance regulations such as Basel 2 and
Sarbanes Oxley have increased demand for accredited IT security
professionals.
The scholarships are open to students wishing to study at any
university recognised by (ISC)2, with preference given to those
with CISSP and SSCP credentials, or those in financial need.
Students need to submit three character references, a planned
budget for how they intend to use their award, and a certified
statement from the university validating the application.
The deadline for applications is November.
