Internet search company Google Inc.
unveiled on Tuesday an automated online advertising program that
expands its business by selling and delivering ads on other Web
sites.
The privately-held company said in a statement
its new automated content-targeted ad service identifies the focus
of a Web page and then automatically serves relevant ads.
While Google already sells ads on its own Web
site, the new service moves it more into the advertising market and
into competition with companies like DoubleClick Inc, which
delivers ads on third-party Web sites.
The company said its new online ad program comprises more than
100,000 advertisers worldwide and said it has been serving ads to
partners including America Online, Ask Jeeves and the Washington
Post.
