Open-source software vendor SuSE Linux has named a new chief
executive officer for the second time since July in the final step
of its recent restructuring.
Gerhard Burtscher has been named as the company's new chief
executive officer and takes up his new role on 1 December. He has
previously worked for Texas Instruments, Digital Equipment and
Silicon Graphics.
Burtscher replaces Johannes Nussbickel, who was promoted from chief
financial officer in July. Nussbickel will now return to the chief
financial officer post, four months after replacing former chief
executive officer Roland Dyroff, who had led the company for eight
years.
The management reshuffle at SuSE also included the resignation in
August of Dirk Hohndel, who had been the company's president and
chief technology officer. Hohndel resigned for "personal reasons" a
month after chief executive officer Dyroff was replaced.
In a statement, Nussbickel called Burtscher's appointment the "the
ideal reinforcement" for the company's executive board. "Following
the successful completion of our refocusing process, we are now
going to quickly guide SuSE Linux back to a stable course of
growth," he said.
