Royal & SunAlliance pulls outsourcing double

Royal & SunAlliance (R&SA), the UK’s second largest commercial lines insurer, has today announced two major outsourcing extensions covering network and IT infrastructure.

Cable & Wireless (C&W) has signed a five-year, multi-million pound, full network outsource contract with R&SA to provide managed, hosted networks infrastructure, as well as an internet protocol (IP) based migration path.

At the same time, IBM has secured a 10-year IT services agreement with the company to manage its IT infrastructure and provide service integration across all of R&SA's third-party technology suppliers.

The networks deal includes voice, wide and local area IP networking, mobility, conferencing, contact centre services and managed security across all of its UK branches and sites. It also extends C&W’s five-year-old relationship with R&SA as its core communications services provider.

The IT infrastructure deal will cover mainframes, mid-range servers, desktops and e-business services. As part of the deal, IBM and R&SA will share joint architectural design authority, where IBM will provide infrastructure management in the integration of services across approximately 40 third-party technology suppliers.

The deal will help R&SA migrate away from the company's legacy infrastructure towards a more standardised application architecture.
