The Science Photo Library is using a pre-release version of a new open source technology to simplify the development of an e-commerce website based on web services technologies.
To avoid a complex implementation using Soap (Simple Object Access Protocol), which is used for joining most web services systems, developer Neoworks used the open source Restlet tool, which acts as a lightweight application programming interface.
Bola Rotibi, senior analyst at Ovum, said, “There has been a lot of work done on making web services easier to use. Soap can be quite complex.”
