The open source Apache Software Foundation is planning to release a new suite of web services, which will give users an alternative to the Sun’s Java-based services and those built on Microsoft’s .Net platform.
Apache Synapse will deliver server software to process XML-based data, and initial code for the project will come from companies including Sonic Software and Infravio.
When combined with other Apache web services projects like Axis 2, the new solution is designed to give enterprise users a lower end open source alternative to commercial web services tools.
Synapse is being built around the Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) standard. The project is currently at the incubator stage.
