Acronis Backup & Recovery chosen by British Gypsum for disaster recovery; and other storage news

Storage roundup: British Gypsum opts for Acronis backup software; new BakBone FASTRecover offers Exchange 2010 support; Crossroads' tape library analytics; Double-Take's UK partner initiative; iStorage signs European reseller deals.

British Gypsum has selected Acronis backup software as a disaster recovery (DR) solution to protect servers that control production at its five manufacturing sites in the UK. The plaster products maker will use Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 to protect approximately 50 servers. Implementation has been completed at three plants, with the final two plants currently being rolled out.

"Every hour of system downtime bears significant cost in production and is potentially disruptive to our business," said Kevin Erne, IT infrastructure manager at British Gypsum. "After a thorough review of disaster recovery solutions on the market, we chose Acronis [Backup & Recovery 10] to provide reliable and fast recovery of our production machines."

New BakBone FASTRecover offers Exchange 2010 support

BakBone Software has introduced Version 4.1 of its disk-based data protection product NetVault:FASTRecover. The new version offers real-time data protection for Microsoft Exchange (including Exchange 2010), SQL Server and Windows file servers. NetVault:FASTRecover allows simultaneous local and remote protection by enabling replication between local and remote NetVault:FASTRecover Servers.

Crossroads' tape library analytics

Crossroads Europe has announced a new Library Overview Analysis Service that potentially enables faster tape backups by providing insight into tape library environments through a web interface. The service allows IT administrators to assess the source of backup latency challenges and proactively resolve issues. The Library Overview Analysis uses performance and utilisation information gathered by Crossroads' RVA, a standalone appliance that installs into a storage-area network (SAN) to capture data about the tape environment.

Double-Take's UK partner initiative

Double-Take Software has announced a new initiative for UK partners around its Double-Take Cloud backup/recovery-as-a-service solution. The Double-Take Cloud Affiliate programme offers dedicated sales, marketing and technical resources to assist in winning business and to support implementations. Double-Take Cloud allows customers to replicate data to the cloud, which can be accessed by end users in the event of a disaster.

iStorage signs European reseller deals

UK-based iStorage has signed a series of distribution deals to take its range of portable hard disk drives to retail and corporate resellers across much of Western Europe. Hermitage Solutions in France; E-Quipment in the Netherlands; Dot Force in Portugal, Spain and Italy; plus Littlebit in Switzerland have all signed long-term agreements with a focus on getting iStorage's diskGenie to business and IT communities, as well as consumers. diskGenie is a compact, portable hard drive that features PIN code access and 128- or 256-bit AES encryption.
