Housing association tenants to pay rent through digital TV

The Harvest Housing Association is the first such body to allow its tenants to pay their bills through interactive TV.

The system is based on a system supported by allpay.net, the bill-payment and collections specialist.

The allpay.tv platform allows Harvest's 18,000 tenants in the north-west to pay rent and other household charges over Sky interactive digital television (iDTV).

Tenants press the interactive button on their remote control, navigate to the appropriate menu option, and then enter Harvest's unique "Sky Key".

After keying in their own unique payment reference number into the remote control, the tenant is guided through a couple more steps to complete payment transactions using a credit or debit card. A confirmation number is provided as proof of every transaction.

Paul Warburton, income and charge manager for Harvest, said, "We feel strongly that it is our role to make paying rent as accessible as possible to our tenants and are always looking for ways to improve our service in this area."
