The new Infrastructure 3 suite includes VMware’s ESX Server platform for virtualising servers, storage and networking, its VirtualCenter management tool and its Virtual Machine File System for storage virtualisation.
Also included is VMware’s Distributed Resource Scheduler, which is designed to help users align their available IT resources with business priorities. The suite’s Symmetric Multi-Processing feature allows a single virtual machine to use multiple physical processors simultaneously.
The bundle also contains VMware’s High Availability, VMotion and Consolidated Backup software.
The package is aimed at helping businesses reduce their total cost of infrastructure ownership by using virtualisation to increase the utilisation of hardware, and to cut back their datacentre requirements.
VMware Infrastructure 3 is available in starter, standard and enterprise editions, aimed at businesses of different sizes.
