EMC expands SME line

Tash Shifrin

EMC has announced two new products in its Insignia line, aimed at helping small and medium businesses to store their e-mail securely.

Competition in the SME storage market has stepped up after rival IBM launched a range of new storage products for SMEs last November, in a tie-up with Network Appliance. The two firms are seeking to challenge EMC’s dominance.

Insignia Solution for Exchange offers managed storage for Microsoft Exchange, including the ability to automate Exchange Server 2003 migration. It also allows users to easily restore individual e-mail messages, a mailbox or the entire server.

It uses EMC’s CLARiiON AX150 and AX150i networked storage systems to ensure data is not lost if a hard drive fails. The product uses EMC Storage Administrator for Exchange SMB Edition software and EMC Retrospect for Windows backup and recovery software.

The EMC Insignia Solution for Data Protection is designed to offer easy-to-manage data protection SMEs’ servers, desktops and laptop computers. It also uses the CLARiiON AX150 and AX150i networked storage systems.
