Broadband internet conquest rolls on

The Office for National Statistics says the number of active internet users in the UK went up by 5.1% in the year ending April, with the number of broadband connections now standing at 49.2% of all accounts.

The Office for National Statistics says the number of active internet users in the UK went up by 5.1% in the year ending April, with the number of broadband connections now standing at 49.2% of all accounts. 

 

The broadband share of connections jumped from 28.5% in the year to April. Between March and April alone this year, the number of broadband connections rose from 47.5% to 49.2%.

 

The percentage of those paying a fixed rate for unmetered dial-up access decreased to 19%, compared with 31% a year before. 

 

The figures are based on survey returns from UK internet service providers. The broadband statistics include cable broadband customers.
