Euro IT innovation winners step forward

Antony Savvas

Two French companies and a Swedish firm have won the annual European Commission-sponsored IT innovations competition.

Each winner of the European IST prize, organised by the European Council of Applied Sciences, Technologies and Engineering, received 200,000 euros (£143,000) for their solutions.

The prize winners were selected from a total of 430 entries, with most of the entries coming from SMEs, including the winners.

The winners were Cypak of Sweden for its contact-less smartcard with integrated PIN pad for secure verification over the internet, and French companies Let It Wave (compression software for storing high-quality identity photos) and Praxim Mediavision (computer-assisted surgical system for precise positioning of implants and grafts in knee surgery).
