NEC and Sun join forces for new solutions

Antony Savvas

NEC and Sun Microsystems have expanded their strategic alliance to jointly develop new system solutions, covering secure voice and data and middleware.

NEC has been an original equipment manufacturer Sun partner since 2000, re-selling some of Sun’s solutions. NEC will expand its NEC Multimedia Information Platform solution based on Sun's Solaris operating system platform in the global market, as part of the deal.

The Japanese company will also use the alliance to enter the global server consolidation market.

In addition, the pair are combining NEC's IP telephony product with Sun's Sun Ray ultra-thin client technology to offer secure communications solutions.

NEC is using this combination as a key component of its customer relationship management solutions for next-generation call centres.
