BMC releases self-learning management software

BMC Software has launched Patrol Analytics, a self-learning version of its system management software.

According to BMC, the software eliminates expensive and time-consuming manual threshold administration by automatically generating dynamic thresholds for each server.

Using a technique called behavioural analytics, BMC said its approach would eliminate 99.5% of false alarms, allowing faster problem diagnosis and repair.

BMC said the software could correlate recently observed behaviour and use the information to anticipate potential degradations up to two hours in advance of potential issues.

The solution, based on technology licensed from Netuitive, only warns IT departments when business services are genuinely at risk.

Mary Smars, BMC vice-president and general manager of distributed systems management, said, "Dynamic thresholding through behavioural analytics is a key enabling technology that is keeping our solutions comprehensive while simplifying operation for our customers.

Patrol Analytics is designed for use with other IT management products in the BMC business service management suite.
