Shared broadband through the air

3Com has launched a wireless asymmetrical digital subscriber line solution that allows companies to share out the high bandwidth from fixed ADSL connections.

The OfficeConnect ADSL Wireless 11g Firewall Router allows multiple users to share a single ADSL line and is designed with small- to medium-sized companies in mind that lack internal networking skills.

Equipped with an ADSL modem, router, up-to-date 802.11g wireless access point, firewall and a four-port switch, the system is usefully backward compatible with most other wireless networking kit.

Therefore, those users with other types of wireless access cards in their laptops, like the most popular 802.11b type, will be able to get internet access using the system.

The solution offers 256-bit data security encryption for those accessing the system in 802.11g format, and between 40 and 128-bit encryption for those accessing it in 802.11b formats, for instance.

Additionally, for those wanting to keep control of the type of content that can be viewed on the network, the package allows filtering out of content based on both URLs and keywords.

The OfficeConnect ADSL Wireless 11g Firewall Router has a US price of $215, with UK prices to be confirmed.
