NetIQ updates SQL Server tools

NetIQ released version 2.0 of its year-old SQL Management Suite today, with new features including a revamped user interface in one module and additional reporting tools in another.

NetIQ's SQL Management Suite is intended to ease administration of Microsoft SQL Server production systems by providing configuration management, diagnostic and recovery functions. Three of the suite's four modules have been updated.

An interface redesign in Diagnostic Manager will display problems in "to-do" list format and offer one-click access to deeper diagnostic information. Administrators will be able to share lists and collaborate on changes.

The suite's Configuration Manager component, which tracks hardware and software changes, now includes several new reports covering server properties, replication settings, database security and SQL Server job scheduling.

Changes were also made to the suite's Recovery Manager application, which features speed and reliability tweaks.

SQL Server Management Suite 2.0 will be available worldwide and NetIQ has added French, German and Spanish-language features to Configuration Manager.

Pricing for the full suite starts at $15,000 (£9,460) for a five-server starter pack. A "standard" edition, which does not include the suite's App Manager module, is priced at $7,500 (£4,730) for a five-server starter pack.

Several of the suite's modules can also be purchased individually. Diagnostic Manager and Configuration Manager are available for $800 (£500) per server. Recovery Manager's price tag is $600 (£380) per server.
