Salesforce.com already has several products allowing remote access to application data, including an Offline Edition for use on notebook computers and a Wireless Edition offering full Salesforce.com access through devices including Research in Motion's BlackBerry units and handhelds running the Palm or Pocket PC operating systems.
What AvantGo Mobile Sales for Salesforce.com offers is quick access to a selected subset of application data, according to Salesforce.com vice-president of product marketing Tien Tzuo.
Using Salesforce.com's Wireless Edition, customers can tap into all of their Salesforce.com data. But for users without wireless service or in places without access, the new AvantGo channel will let them synchronise and work with information on pre-selected accounts, he said.
AvantGo Mobile Sales for Salesforce.com is available now for Pocket PC devices. Support for Palm devices will be available by the end of the month, according to the companies.
An annual subscription to the add-on offering costs $299 (£186) per user. However, for the next several months, an introductory price of $249 per user, per year, will be in effect. A free 30-day trial is also available.
The price tag for the basic Salesforce.com application service, dubbed the Professional Edition, starts at $65 (£40) per user, per month. Add-ons such as the Wireless Edition or Offline Edition are available to Professional Edition users for an additional fee. Both are included in Salesforce.com's Enterprise Edition, priced at $125 (£78) per user, per month.
