Static revenue halts Sun profits

IT directors whose firms own Unix systems from Sun watched the California company's financial results with interest last week.

Sun forecast a slight loss for the first quarter, as sales remain tough to come by in the hardware industry. It predicted that revenue will be close to its first-quarter total last year of $2.86bn (£1.8bn).

Chief financial officer Stephen McGowan said Sun expects to have cut its workforce by 1,000 by the end of the year, with some lay-offs occurring this quarter.
