Galileo releases Web services middleware

Galileo International is selling a Web services integrator to its customers.

The company said yesterday that it has developed middleware based on XML and the Simple Object Access Protocol. The software will allow customers such as hotels and travel agencies to cull information either from the Web or from the giant reservation system clearing houses and post it on a Web site or in an HTML-based e-mail.

"We're deploying Web services with select customers and will introduce Web services solutions to all of our customers in the upcoming months," said Mickey Lutz, Galileo's chief information officer, in a statement.

Galileo's computer reservation system provides price and availability information on airfare, rental cars, hotels and other travel-related services in huge data centres that other travel providers and travel agents can then access and use to make reservations.
