HP's storage marketing manager Matthew Harding explained, "We have moved from having non-proprietary storage that was not managed, to having storage that is managed but in a proprietary way. To manage both, you need Federated Storage Area Management."
FSam is unique in catering for server-attached and platform-shared storage as well as network-attached storage and storage area networks (San). "We endorse them all. They all co-exist They all have a place," said Harding.
FSam covers all types of storage from tape and optical discs to the whole range of magnetic discs.
HP's FSam launch also included a new mid-range disc subsystem, a raft of storage management software, and bundled offerings under the name Network Storage Appliance.
Network Storage Appliance is a range of Windows-based networked storage solutions comprising hardware, back-up, storage management software and support services. The aim of the range is to help companies get Sans up and running quickly.
