Users have been encouraged to develop rapid response teams to deal with Web site hacks following the defacement of Nintendo's European Web sites.

Hacker group the BL4F Crew posted the message "Security is a complete myth on the Internet" and railed against "script kiddies".

Ovum analyst Graham Titterington said, "A policy for rapid response after an attack is a measure that should be taken, providing a ready-made plan to protect and restore information.

"Write protecting Web site pages is one way. Most public Web sites are held in 'demilitarised zones' which exist outside the main firewall for performance reasons and are not fully protected," he added.
