
IBM to put power processors into deep sleep
IBM
has said that it is developing an additional deep-sleep mode for its power processors, so they can draw a normal amount of
current when idling in 'Winkle' mode. Power7 chips have two energy saving modes -- sleep and nap.
Nap mode cuts the processor voltage by 15%, but the deep-sleep mode would bring it down to an 85%
savings, according to Big Blue.
Xangati launches free VMware tool for ESX management
Xangati has launched a
free version of its VMware tool for ESX management, which is designed to solve problems in both
server virtualisation and virtual desktop infrastructure environments. The tool installs as an OVF
virtual appliance, can support up to 10 IP identities and works with VMware 3.5,
4.0 and 4.1 for ESX and ESXi.

Network Storage Server (NSS) is an SSD storage product that is designed to increase the performance
of VMware virtual desktop environments, whilst protecting data.
Arista Networks extends EOS with VM Tracer
Arista
Networks has extended its EOS
(Extensible Operating System) software with Arista VM Tracer. The new capability aims
to bridge the gap between the physical and virtual networks within a VMware environment. This
is achieved through software features that run on the Arista 7000 Family of Cloud Networking
Switches. The VM Tracer allows administrators to have control through the VMware vSphere
interface.
EMC releases Clairrion and Celerra upgrades
EMC
has launched an upgraded Clarrion and Celerra midrange storage system. The new version includes a storage management tool, VMware integration, and Fibre
Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) connectivity.
