HP chases SMEs with £220 server

HP is targeting the small business sector with a server aimed at enterprises with fewer than ten members of staff.

The ProLiant MicroServer starts from around £220, but does not come with an operating system.

Christian Keller, head of HP's Industry Standard Servers, said the sector represents a lucrative source of income. The addressable world market for SMEs in printers, PCs, enterprise infrastructure and services is in the region of €193bn. The EMEA market is thought to be worth €75bn, he said.

According to research from AMI, 1.7 million small businesses will buy their first server this year. But experts say as more SMEs gear up for cloud adoption, this could influence their current hardware buying decisions.
