Broadcaster BSkyB is extending the use of web
analytics software across its online operation, after the technology helped it cut costs and
boost efficiency.
The software, delivered via on-demand hosting, gives staff real-time, audited information about
page views and numbers of visitors. This allows departments to improve the quality of their
planning, said Sam Fay, Sky Online operations manager at BSkyB.
He said, "IT staff use it for architecture planning, which is important when we add new sections.
We also use it to work out whether we are able to stream events live on to the web.
"We would like to extend its use to focus on more negative aspects, such as error pages. Because it
is real-time, it can bring issues to our attention quickly."
