Recent research from Gartner has suggested that for
organisations, virtualisation will be the highest-impact
trend-changing infrastructure and operations through 2012.
Key drivers are a much-needed simplification of the business
infrastructure, the drive towards Green IT, and let’s face it, for
many, a sheer naked drive to consolidate resources and increase
efficiency. But whatever you’re trying to virtualise – whether it
is storage, servers or desktops - it has to be managed
effectively.
The problem is that while the theory behind virtualisation is
fine, and there are plenty of organisations doing it, there are
some critical areas where practical virtualisation is falling down.
For example, finding effective virtualisation management tools – or
indeed, isolating true virtualisation best practices.
Few models yet exist to assess the impact of server
virtualisation on system administration costs for IT organisations.
And while there has been a blind rush by organisations to tackle
virtualisation, some believe virtualisation actually adds to system
complexity rather than decreasing it.
The reality is that, as with any transformation technology,
virtualisation is only going to be as good as the planning and the
management put behind it. You can create a dynamic infrastructure
through virtualisation, but you must have the most effective tools
to manage it.
IBM's approach to managing virtualisation gives businesses the
visibility, control and automation to quickly provision resources
across the infrastructure as demands change, reducing costs and
complexity.
This webinar will;
- Put into context IBM’s approach to helping organisations manage
their virtualised environments.
- Discuss the current landscape for virtualisation, the drivers –
and the hurdles!
- Identify the key issues and tools and techniques for managing
virtualisation, and why and when organisations should be going
about using them.
- Discuss best practices and offer insight on strategies that
firms can take in order to improve their adoption and management of
virtualisation.
The webinar will look at how organisations have gone from being
virtualisation novices to delivering clear business benefits
through a dynamic, virtualised – and managed – infrastructure and
will draw on case studies of end users that have used
virtualisation technologies to drive measurable efficiencies within
their business.
