A communications gap between businesses and software developers
is leading to too many software failures, according to
research.
In a survey of 100 software developers, carried out by software
testing firm Sogeti, 93 said businesses are not communicating what
they need from software.
A total of 87% agree that there are too many
software failures.
When it comes to testing and development methods used in
business half said they relied on the v-model, 35% used agile and
15% the waterfall method.
One in ten said they would welcome software development to be
delivered on demand.
Richard Terry, deputy CEO at Sogeti UK, said businesses cannot
take risks by cutting software testing budgets during the
recession.
Bola Rotibi, principle analyst at Macehiter Ward Dutton, said
everything is in place for successful software development but more
commitment is required form the entire business.
"Businesses have it within themselves to do it. The tools and
processes are also there but more commitment is required."
She said software failures can
destroy businesses. "Any failures will damage trust and
confidence in a company brand and will damage customer
loyalty."
