TIBCO Software has developed a messaging appliance that uses
custom hardware to accelerate message processing. The product is
designed to provide financial institutions and large manufacturing
firms with real-time data to help them react quicker to changes.
The company claims the hardware, called the
P-7500,
is 10 times faster than using just software, and reduces latency by
50%.
The product plugs into a company's network, allowing businesses
with existing applications based on TIBCO's Rendezvous protocol to
handle messages faster.
TIBCO claims the P-7500 Messaging Appliance will reduce the
amount of hardware users need for messaging by a tenth.
Unlike many of today's hardware appliances, TIBCO Messaging
Appliance does not use a microprocessor running Linux or Windows.
Instead, TIBCO has taken a pure hardware approach, using
field-programmable gate array (FPGA) and application-specific
integrated circuit (ASIC) chips to hard-wire event handling into
custom chips.
