Norwich Union Life is using anIBM Websphereenterprise service bus
(ESB) to speed up software development and reduce the cost of
introducing new financial products.
The ESB is designed to simplify access to data and IT services
residing on different systems. The pensions arm of insurance firm
Norwich Union will use the ESB to standardise and reuse common IT
functions and develop applications to support new products.
“Because the ESB is industry standard, resourcing becomes easier
and effort can be concentrated on creating business input and not
on coding,” said Paul Gould, chief architect at Norwich Union
Life.
The ESB glues together the company’s service oriented
architecture, said Gould. After moving to an SOA in 2002, the firm
is seeing benefits as the strategy matures, he said.
Offshoring offers greater flexibility, says Norwich Union
