The first beta of theFirefox3.0open sourceweb browser has been
delayed by around six weeks, as developer Mozilla concentrates on
improving its quality.
The new browser was originally expected to first appear by the
end of this month, but this has now been pushed back until the
middle of September.
A posting to the Mozilla development planning group by
Mike Schroepfer, Mozilla vice president of engineering, set out the
new roadmap for the beta.
Mozilla is still developing new features in the browser and is
working to get the size of the code footprint down.
The size of the browser is key to Mozilla, as the streamlined
browser takes up far less space than chief rival Internet
Explorer.
The final version of Firefox 3.0 was expected by the end of the
year. It is not clear whether this will now be pushed back into
next year.
