HuriDocs, a global network of human rights
organisations, is using the Fast Enterprise Search Platform to
provide an internet search tool tailored for human rights
groups.
The hosted search engine, called HuriSearch, is being used to
index more than 2.5 million pages from 3,000 websites every 24
hours, providing multilingual search capabilities. The technology
is enabling HuriDocs to strengthen and support networks and other
collaborative efforts among organisations by promoting greater
availability, relevance and more effective management of human
rights information.
James Lawson of HuriDocs explained that general internet search
engines were unsuitable for people researching human rights. "We
could not rely on market forces. They do not do justice to
grassroots movements," he said, since many are not written in
English and most search engines are biased towards English language
sites.
