Data Domain unveils datacentre deduplication array
Deduplication company Data Domain has announced the availability of
its DDX series datacentre scale deduplicating protection storage
array. The array contains a new controller, the DD560, which fully
configured offers up to 6.4Tbytes per hour of sustained throughput
and up to 15 petabytes of capacity for long-term online retention
of backup data. Using the company's Global Compression technology,
DDX array configurations are available for less than 35 cents per
Gbyte, the company claims.
Data Domain also announced it has partnered with ETI-NET, a
specialised developer of storage interfaces for multi-supplier
datacentres, to offer data protection capabilities for HP NonStop
servers. A joint engineering effort between the companies has
resulted in the adaptation and qualification of Data Domain's
disc-based compression technologies with ETI-NET EZX/BackBox
virtual tape controllers to enable high-performance storage of
large amounts of
mission critical NonStop backup data. The combined offering brings
operational flexibility to NonStop system users, who can now
maintain access to massive amounts of historic data, as well as
implementing advanced cross-datacentre business continuity
architectures, the companies said.
