Volkswagen has deployed remote access software from
Fibrelink to simplify connectivity for its mobile
workforce.
The company which is Europe’s largest car maker and owns VW,
Audi, Seat and Lamborghini, presented its mobile strategy at the
Burton Group conference in Barcelona yesterday.
Previously, remote access fragmented, was hard to manage and
used expensive layer 2 virtual private networks (VPN).
"We wanted global remote access through one user interface,"
said Jurgen Rabba who worked on the project at Volkswagen.
The car maker's aim was to combine all methods of accessing its
network with anti-virus, VPN and personal firewall software, in
order to provide integrated protection.
The Fibrelink software has been deployed to connect the
end-user's laptop to whatever Internet connection is available,
such as Wi-Fi or broadband. The software also fires up anti-virus,
VPN and personal firewall protection, to ensure the laptop is
secure.
The technology has now been rolled out to 15,000 users across
the company. Rabba said.
