Oracle has issued a list of Linux configurations it has
tested with its 10g database to help users deploy pre-tested open
source configurations.
The company’s goal is to provide a straightforward way for users
to deploy Oracle 10g on Linux.
Called Oracle Validated Configurations, the initiative includes
documented best practices, covering what hardware and software
combinations to deploy.
The scheme aims to help users speed up deployment and reduce the
amount of expensive system testing needed. Oracle said it should
enable companies to lower infrastructure costs while helping to
improve performance, scalability and reliability.
The pre-tested configurations cover PC server and storage
hardware from companies including Dell, EMC, IBM, Hewlett-Packard
Network Appliance and Sun, running Oracle 10.2.02g on Novell and
Red Hat’s Linux distribution. Other supported products include
those from Emulex and QLogic.
Oracle and its partners plan to publish new configurations
periodically and update existing configurations regularly as new
versions of the components are released.
