Symantec has announced IM Manager 8.0, which is designed
to address instant messaging security problems.
The product is the first to emerge from Symantec’s purchase of
IMLogic earlier this year. It is aimed at security managers looking
to prevent the numerous security threats from instant messaging
applications, and worried by the difficulty of running such
applications while meeting compliance regulations.
The new version improves on the previous IMLogic version by
integrating more effectively with Symantec’s Enterprise Vault email
compliance system. The security features cover real time protection
against worms, spam, viruses and phishing attacks that use the IM
channel to spread trouble.
A future version is likely to Voice over IP (VoIP) protection,
which is another growing worry for security managers.
IM is an application that, when integrated into business
processes, offers real potential. However, it’s been largely
forgotten about from a corporate security perspective.
