Good Technology has launched a software product that
offers businesses security protection for the mobile devices used
by their staff.
The launch follows a report by mobile phone operator Orange, and
analysts Quocirca earlier this month which found that companies
were falling down on mobile security. Just one in five companies
using large numbers of handheld devices had security policies in
place to cover them.
Good’s Mobile Defense software is designed to give IT managers
control over applications, features, passwords and encryption on
mobile devices across a variety of platforms, including Windows
Mobile Pocket PC and Smartphone, Palm OS, and Symbian.
The package includes a desktop policy manager and client
software that allows managers to disable Bluetooth, Wifi or HotSync
use, and to lock handheld device features such as cameras,
microphones and speakers.
Its password management functions include a facility to erase
data and wipe applications, including external media storage cards,
remotely if users repeatedly fail to enter correct passwords.
Encryption of all devices, their storage cards and applications can
also be controlled centrally.
