The open-source Mozilla Foundation has launched Release
Candidate 3 of its forthcoming Firefox version 1.5
browser.
Mozilla was originally hoping that Release Candidate 2 would
pass all the bug tests before the launch of version 1.5, but
analysis from the open-source community proved otherwise.
Version 1.5, which is seen as a big upgrade from version 1.0,
will offer better navigational features, improved security, and an
easier browser update system to users.
Mozilla now says it expects to launch 1.5 at the end of November
or the beginning of December, depending on how user and developer
testing goes with Release Candidate 3.
Firefox 2 is expected by the middle of next year and Firefox 3
is slated for the beginning of 2007.
Microsoft’s still-dominant Internet Explorer browser has around
85% of the browser market. Firefox has crept up to 9% after only
being launched a year ago, and is now the number-two browser in the
market.
