The latest range of industry-standard specifications to
control business web services is being delayed until the middle of
next 2006.
Version 2.0 of the Web Services Business Process Execution
Language (BPel) is being delayed because standards body Oasis has
put back the approval process as a result of unresolved issues with
the technology.
BPel is an XML-based language developed by IBM, BEA Systems,
Microsoft and others for defining web services business
processes
The original aim was to have BPel 2.0 ready by the end of the
year, but the Oasis technical committee is still dealing with
dozens of issues raised by Oasis member companies.
Some companies have already released products that work to
outline versions of BPel 2.0, but the de facto industry standard
may not arrive until next summer.
