A 13-year-old today become one of the youngest students to pass an A level in computing.

Adam Buckland of St Albans Hertfordshire gained a grade C after completing the two-year course in nine months.

The youngster was a pupil at Ryde College, which specialises in helping children achieve academic qualifications at a young age.

"We are extremely proud of Adam and his achievement in his computing A level. He worked very hard and has thoroughly enjoyed studying," said the boy’s mother, Jennifer Buckland.

Mike Ryde, managing director of Ryde College, said that with the right opportunity, support from parents and motivation, children from all ages can achieve success in examinations.

The college said that gaining early qualifications improves self-confidence, self-discipline and motivation.
