Three-quarters of the UK public have no plans to buy broadband
Internet access, according to Computer Weekly research.
In conjunction with Computer Weekly and CW360.com, ICM Research
surveyed 1,006 people to gauge the UK's perception of broadband
Internet.
The survey found that only 8% of those asked had broadband Internet
access. A further 8% of respondents said they were planning to buy
broadband Internet access within the next six months, while 72%
said they had no plans to invest in broadband.
Worryingly, 12% did not understand the concept of fast Internet
access.Kate Turner, a director at ICM Research said, "Businesses
need to be far more focused as there is limited awareness of
broadband." She said people seemed to be unaware of what it could
actually do.
People in the 18 to 24 age group seemed more open to broadband
Internet access. Some 15% already own a broadband connection and a
13% plan to buy one within six months.
Understanding and take-up of broadband was highest in the South
East and in socio-economic groups AB, C1 and C2.
