A Java toolkit that allows developers to build Web- based
applications that can handle Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), a
cross-platform format for graphics based on XML, has been released
for beta testing by the Apache Software Foundation (ASF), writes
Daniel Thomas.
The development is part of a project called Batik, run by open
source specialist ASF in conjunction with Sun Microsystems. Sun
donated code to the project, including SVGGraphics2D generator
software, which allows Java-based technology applications to export
to the SVG format. It also supplied image encoders and components,
such as gradient paints and filter effects.
