The Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) has made its desire to recruit IT specialists not so top secret with the launch of a recruitment website promoting life in Cheltenham, where the department is based.

The GCHQ site targets both graduates and experienced IT specialists. Posted vacancies include those for an information assurance and network defence specialist with a salary in the region of £35,000 and information specialists and intelligence analysts, at £25,000.

The site promotes GCHQ's flexible working culture, suggesting a job at the intelligence organisation would suit anyone passionate about "hill-walking, drama and jazz music", or someone who wants to "spend more time with family".

The range of sport on offer in Cheltenham from cricket to cheese rolling, as well as the quality of restaurants, schools and shops in the area, is also highlighted on the site.

GCHQ will also use contextual advertising in the drive. When a user passes their mouse over sponsored words such as 'computer science', on websites including iVillage, an interactive presentation about GCHQ is launched.

The recruitment campaign runs until October.
