Fujitsu ships ultra-fast 160Gbyte laptop drive

Fujitsu is now shipping an ultra-fast 2.5in mobile hard disc with a massive capacity of 160 gigabytes.

Fujitsu is now shipping an ultra-fast 2.5in mobile hard disc with a massive capacity of 160 gigabytes.

The new MHW2 BJ series discs are capable of data transmission speeds of up to 300mbps, the fastest rate in the industry, said Fujitsu.

Fujitsu said that as the use of notebook PCs becomes ever more popular, there is demand for high reliability notebook PC HDDs that offer high-speed and high-capacity performance on a par with those available in desktops.

The MHW2 BJ series helps meets this demand with a speed of 7,200 rpm, the highest of any serial ATA 2.5in HDD, Fujitsu said.

Fujitsu said it expected to sell around 1.6 million units of the new disc this year, as PC manufacturers bundled the solution into their machines.
