UK IT specialists' involvement in Europe is expected to increase following the election of BCS past president Geoff McMullen as president of the Council of European Professional Informatics Societies (Cepis).

BCS chief executive David Clarke said, "Geoff will seek to engage UK IT professionals more fully with their European counterparts, as well as pushing the UK's IT profile more centre stage in the building of a stronger IT fraternity and voice within the European community."

McMullen is a firm believer in the value of pan-European collaboration after 40 years of Europe-related IT activities in both the public and commercial sectors.

Cepis is a not-for-profit organisation that brings together nearly 40 IT bodies from more than 30 countries throughout Europe, representing over 200,000 professionals.
