Business communications applications, systems and services provider Avaya has launched a product designed to simplify the uptake of IP technology in SMBs.
Avaya one-X Quick Edition is a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)-based peer-to-peer system in which all the functionality is contained within a phone and can work without a communications server.
Users plug the IP phones into a Lan and they will automatically 'discover' each other, start up their features, and give users access to commonly used telephony applications including voicemail and conferencing. An auto-attendant also provides the phones' back-up for one another.
Avaya believes that a product like this was long overdue from a tier-one IP telephony supplier, and expresses firm belief that it has the potential to create a major impact in the SMB arena.
