Customer relationship management supplier Siebel Systems replaced its chief executive last week, just days before its user conference in Barcelona.

Siebel board member George Shaheen has replaced Michael Lawrie as chief executive. Lawrie had held the post for less than a year.

"The Siebel board and Mr Lawrie agreed mutually that he would resign the position," said the company.

And in a bid to steal a march on Siebel, Salesforce.com last week previewed the latest additions to its on-demand CRM software range.

SForce 6.0, available in June, enables companies to connect their on-demand Salesforce.com CRM systems with the rest of their enterprise applications and infrastructure.

Salesforce will also launch the Sforce Partner Portal Toolkit later this summer. The toolkit will provide a complete Java-based web application for creating partner portals on a user's website.
