Councils are becoming increasingly confident that they will meet the 2005 e-government target, according to research by the Improvement and Development Agency.

The research found that 48% of respondents were either confident or very confident that their authority would meet the target, compared to 40% last year.

However, about 20% of officials surveyed said they were not confident of achieving the 2005 goal, compared to 18% last year.

The figures, which were released last week at the agency's E-Champion conference, came from a consultation with 112 officials responsible for e-government in English councils.
