Enterprise application supplier SAP will double the number of software engineers at its Indian development centre over the next three years.

"We will increase the number of software engineers from 1,000 to 2,000, beginning this year,"  said company spokeswoman Laurie Doyle Kelly.

"These engineers will come from India. We have no plans to transfer any from Germany."

SAP Labs India Private in Bangalore is the largest software development centre SAP operates outside its home base in Germany, according to Doyle Kelly.

SAP already operates a sales and support subsidiary, SAP India Private, in Bangalore, which has around 400 customers, 160 of them small and medium-sized enterprises.
