Oracle showed an improvement in overall revenue for its third quarter, reporting a net income of $571m (£365m) for the period ending 28 February, despite a decline in new software licences.

This marks a 12% increase over the $508m in net income posted in the same quarter last year. Oracle also showed a 2% increase in revenue over last year's third quarter with $2.31bn earned this period.

Even though software licences for Oracle products fell, product updates and services revenue rose.
