Sun Microsystems is seeking users to test the latest beta version of its StarOffice software.

The StarOffice 6.1 beta program, including enhancements for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and developers, is scheduled to begin on 3 March and run through to 2 May, according to a message on the company's website ( wwws.sun.com/software/star/staroffice/beta/index.html).

Sun is looking for three types of users for the beta program:

  • SMEs with five or more participants within an organisation willing to test features for small and medium-sized businesses.
  • Developers and system administrators to test developer tools and system administration enhancements, including StarOffice Developer Kit and StarOffice Configuration Manager.
  • General public testers to test any and all applications within StarOffice in their existing environments.

Sun is welcoming testers using either the Windows, Linux or Solaris operating systems, as well as existing StarOffice users and new users looking for alternative office application software. The company is requesting testers to complete a form to determine eligibility.
