Stephen Timms, who has taken over from Douglas Alexander as e-commerce minister, has 15 years of experience in the computing and telecoms industry.

Timms, who entered Parliament in 1994, has worked for IT services forum Logica and analyst Ovum. He also advised Labour's information society policy forum when the party was in opposition and has been honorary president of the Telecommunications Users Association and a member of the council on the Parliamentary IT Committee. In government he was schools minister at the Department for Education and Skills, and financial secretary to the Treasury.
